PPHOTOS JEAN-MARTIN BAILLARGEON

After having lived in different places around the world, such as Africa, the United States, Canada, and in several regions of Quebec, Jean-Martin Baillargeon now lives in Montréal. A graduate of 4 universities, from childhood he has always been interested in the visual aspect of things, in art and at work. Jean-Martin Baillargeon uses graphite, charcoal, pastel, ink, acrylic and finally oil paint as a medium. The current exhibition is only oil painting.

“This pandemic period has given me the opportunity to paint more. Limited in my movements, I was inspired for my paintings by what surrounds me and soothes me, my family, my garden, my countryside… Drawing and painting gave me the opportunity to escape”, he said.

PHOTOS COURTESY TOWN OF MOUNT-ROYAL

The aquatic world remains stuck in her soul and in her imagination since early childhood. She focuses her attention more around techniques, which she merges to get closer to the delicate and moving material that is water and to extract the marine world from any context. It no longer focuses solely on texture, lines, its gradations of hues… in a word, its beauty. Isolated and charged with a powerful sensuality, its waters and its marine beings hidden in the abstract textures become mysterious and striking.

Each of Aura Chiriac's works is an exercise that leads to rediscovering the joy, serenity, simplicity and magic of the dream world that is so close to us in childhood, but which seems to move away as we grow up.

PHOTOS STATION MONT-ROYAL

It is under the sign of emotion that took place last Saturday, at Atholstan Park in Town of Mount Royal, the unveiling of the work in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the end of the Republic of Vietnam.

The monument, known as "le conte d’une vie" - a work by sculptor Jean-Pierre Busque - is a donation made to the Town of Mount Royal by the Viet Héritage Renaissance organization.

The sculpture symbolizes a thank you to Canada and Quebec for welcoming the Vietnamese refugees from the sea, but also a memory for those who perished at sea. It also reminds generations of Vietnamians of their origin and the sacrifice of their ancestors in the journey to freedom.

The event took place in the presence of Mayor Philippe Roy and city councilors, Member of the National Assembly Pierre Arcand, Federal Members of Parliament Anthony Housefather, Pablo Rodriguez and Alexandre Boulerice and many dignitaries from the Vietnamese community.
