In the heart of Connaught Park is the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau rose garden, named in honor of the one who was Prime Minister of Canada and Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Mount Royal.

The rose garden includes five roses of an unprecedented variety - Rosa rugosa "Michel Trudeau" - a cultivar dedicated to the memory of the son of Pierre Elliott Trudeau who died in 1998. The Michel Trudeau rose, which appeared in the summer of 1999, is the result of a random sowing in the garden of one of her aunts. This is a tough, rough rose, perfectly capable of withstanding Canadian winters. Here are some photos taken on June 23.
