Philippe Roy will not participate in the municipal elections of 2021. The lack of respect or even the hatred which is expressed shamelessly on social networks is gradually overcoming the will of several political enthusiasts who appreciate the public good and wished to engage in it in the framework of a healthy and constructive debate. Philippe Roy, Mayor of Mont-Royal, like his colleague Jean-François Parenteau, mayor of the Verdun, declares, today Tuesday March 23, that he will not stand for his own succession during the next municipal elections in the fall of this year.

This is what Philippe Roy, who has been at the Mont-Royal town hall for 16 years, has been as municipal councilor from 2005 to 2010, then mayor since 2010, elected by acclamation.
“My wife is not in politics. She doesn’t have to be caught up in these debates, ”he told media, to say the least sickened by what their children are seeing on other social media. “The toxic climate, which permeates public debate, discourages people who would like to get into politics during the next election. You have to be strong to hold out, ”he adds, referring to other emblematic mayors such as Valérie Plante in Montreal or Régis Labeaume in Quebec.
